Lateral Riser Retention System (LRRS)

DETAILS

Client name: TOTAL E&P SOUTH AFRICA
Project name: Lateral Riser Retention System (LRRS)
Duration: 2800 man-days

Project Description

TOTAL E&P South Africa aims to drill an exploration well at 1,400 m of water offshore South Africa where oceanographic conditions are particularly harsh. Indeed, the strong currents can provoke a clash between the riser and the vessel. The drilling window is restrained to the month of May 2014. The system should limit the angle at the upper flex joint level, be remotely operated, and not disturb the other operations. The DP3 drilling semi-submersible Eirik Raude belonging to Ocean Rig has been selected to perform this campaign.
